{ Worship for who He is. }

[Extract from “Momentum”, Chapter by Eric Johnson]

From a young age, David was often found singing to God in pure worship and adoration when no one was looking. He was a true worshiper before he ever became known. As we look at his life, we can see his pure passion for worship. David was absolutely caught up more by who God is than by what God does.

Any time we are more consumed by what God does than who he is, we begin to miss the point of what He does. The act of worship is n ever about us and what He does for us. It’s all about who He is. If we begin to approach the act of worship because of what He does, we than fall into the trap of trying to manipulate Him to do what we want with our worship.

There is nothing wrong with admiring what God does. In fact, we are instructed to be expert stewards of what God does and to always remember His goodness and works. So desiring what He does is not an issue. But it can become an issue when admiring what He does doesn’t lead us to worship who He is.

It’s important that our pursuit of supernatural signs and wonder leads us to the destination of who God is. So when we worship God in spirit and in truth, it is beautiful and perfect.

David’s life of worship created in him a heart that was after God, and God loved it. Pure and perfect worship is selfless. It has no agenda, no strings attached, no motive – just a desire to give Him what we have to give.
