‘Two are better than one...’ (Ecclesiastes 4:9)
Don’t be fooled into thinking that you have the capacity to achieve your best on your own. A training partner in the gym is a great asset because when you think you have reached your limit, there is someone who can push you to go further.
Having someone who believes in you and encourages you to reach for your dream will add to your life and be a friend to your destiny. It was the blind and deaf Helen Keller who said, ‘Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.’ The Bible puts it this way: ‘Two are better than one...’ (Ecclesaistes 4:9)
This verse goes on to list the benefits of partnership and the blessings of intimacy. The desire to have intimate relationships is deep within every human being – be it with our life’s partner, our family or close friendships.
To be ‘intimate’ means to be closely acquainted and familiar with someone else, and within the right parameters, intimacy is one of life’s great blessings. Yet to some, intimacy can become a curse. People who carry the scars of painful relationships can allow their past experiences to keep sabotaging their present and future relationships. To protect themselves, some put up walls to prevent others becoming too close to them. Others habitually form intimate relationships with the wrong people for the wrong reasons. To them, intimacy means confusion and pain.
Instead, intimacy should enhance and bless lives. If you have been hurt or betrayed by someone, don’t allow that to prevent you from building good relationships in the future. A good starting point is becoming part of a local church that inspires you to expand and grow, building relationships with others whose lives are based on Bible principles.
